How to Host Your Own Check Mates Event
1. Find a public location.
Check Mates events have successfully occurred at libraries and houses of worship. Community centers and schools are also great options.

2. Secure a date and time.

3. Make sure you have supplies.
You'll need tables, chairs, and chess sets. (Invite players to pack their own sets, and see if the facility has any available.) Optional: Offer colored stickers to place on participants' clothes representing their skill levels to help them identify comparable players. We've found beginner, beginner-intermediate, intermediate, and advanced categories work well.
Check Mates events don't require much.

4. Publicize.
Use social media and flyers. You can contact schools, elderly facilities, and youth organizations.

5. On the day of the event, keep these tips in mind:
When players enter, have them identify their skill level: beginner, beginner-intermediate, intermediate, and advanced. Encourage players to pick opponents at their level whom they are meeting for the first time.

6. Contact us.
Please contact us for questions and to let us know how your event ran.
